BATTLING businessmen and stunt riders will be
saddling up for a weekend of fun and fitness in the city to
mark Cycle-MK.
Cycle-MK is an event to promote fitness
by demonstrating the fun of cycling and how easy it is to get
around by using the city's unrivalled Redway cycle routes -
one of the best cycle networks in the UK.
The two-day
cycling spectacular event starts at 9am on Saturday, June 16th
with a number of events including a Battle of Profession where
local firms will take part in a racing contest on static
bikes.
Other events include thecentre:MK inter-shop
race and a distance static cycle challenge to visitors to the
exhibition held at the shopping centre's Middleton
Hall.
While on Sunday from 11am, top BMX rider Richard
Johnson will also be demonstrating his formidable skills when
the local RJ Ride Guide Riders put on display of ramp jumps,
bunny hops and wheelies.
Ceri Griffin, the council's
cycling 'spokes' man said: "It looks set to be a brilliant two
days with all sorts of events for everyone.
"We would
urge people of all ages to get over there, because there's
loads of stuff going on."
Also throughout the weekend
there will be a cycling exhibition including:
- A display of historical bikes by MK Museum
- Cycling routes information from SUSTRANS and CTC.
- Advice from mountain bike instructor Helen Powell
- Information about a Cancer research Bike Ride in
September.
Other exhibitors include cycle hire
firm Whitecap Leisure, John Lewis, Evans Cycles, the Ambulance
Service and NSPCC.
Pupils from Long Meadow School will
also be displaying their designs for new look super
cycles.
